New Delhi – Residents of Delhi and adjoining areas woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Monday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert and warned of more showers in the coming days.

Heavy Rain Hits Delhi, NCR in Early Morning Hours

At around 5:00 AM, the IMD issued a nowcast warning for Delhi-NCR, which was later updated at 6:30 AM with alerts for the next two hours. The warning forecasted light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds (30-40 km/h) and light thunderstorms across:

  • Delhi and NCR

  • Narwana, Fatehabad, Barwala, Jind, Adampur, Hisar

  • Gohana, Gannaur, Hansi, Siwani, Meham, Sonipat, Tosham

Several of these areas experienced strong winds and steady showers, disrupting morning routines for commuters.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Cloudy Skies, More Rain Ahead

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi will see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning for the next two days. After that, very light to light rainfall is expected.

  • Maximum Temperature: 32°C to 34°C

  • Minimum Temperature: 25°C to 27°C

  • Temperature Drop: 2°C to 4°C below normal

Humidity Levels Remain 'Dangerously High'

Weather tracking service AccuWeather has described the humidity in Delhi as "dangerously high", currently at 92%, making the weather feel like 39°C despite the cloud cover. The heat index, combined with high moisture levels, is contributing to oppressive conditions, particularly in the morning hours.

  • Expected Rainfall: 2.5 mm in the morning

 IMD Warns of Widespread Heavy Rains in Northern India

The Monsoon trough continues to remain active over northern India, leading to massive large-scale rainfall events. A Western Disturbance (WD) dipping over the region is expected to amplify the weather system.

The Met Department's warnings for July 7–8 cover multiple states including:

  • Delhi & NCR

  • Northwest and North Rajasthan

  • Haryana and Punjab

  • Western Uttar Pradesh

  • Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir

What to Expect: Advisory for Delhi Residents

  • Keep umbrellas and raincoats handy for the next 48 hours.

  • Avoid low-lying and waterlogged areas during peak showers.

  • Sensitive groups (elderly, children) are advised to stay indoors due to high humidity and potential thunderstorm activity.
