Why Business Expansion in India Is No Longer Tied to an Office Lease

For most of India's business history, growing into a new city or state followed one script. You found premises, signed a lease, and put your name on the door before you could sell a thing. A physical office was proof that the business was serious, and it was the only clear route into a new market, so expansion and office space were treated as effectively the same decision.

That is now changing quickly, and while businesses are still growing and plenty still take offices, the lease is no longer the first move, and often not a required one, when a company steps into a new market.

Flexible Workspace has Become the Mainstream Choice

The shift shows up plainly in how India leases space, with flexible workspaces now making up close to a fifth of the country's commercial office leasing. Not long ago, flex meant little more than a handful of desks rented by freelancers, whereas today it has become the place where serious companies plan their footprint.
